Emergency Pet Surgery at Northern Beaches Vet
Pet emergencies can be frightening, but you’re not alone. Our team is here to help when you need us most. We provide urgent surgical care for life-threatening conditions, sudden injuries and time-sensitive complications. With a compassionate approach and a focus on fast, effective treatment, we’re committed to supporting both you and your pet through stressful moments.

We perform emergency caesarean sections for pets experiencing difficulty giving birth, helping ensure the safety of both mother and puppies or kittens. Our team is experienced in managing high-risk pregnancies and acting quickly when complications arise.

For pets that have suffered cuts, bites or trauma, we offer laceration and wound repair to reduce pain, prevent infection and promote healthy healing. Even injuries that appear small can be more serious beneath the surface, so prompt assessment is essential.

One of the most urgent conditions we treat is pyometra, a life-threatening infection of the uterus in unspayed females. Emergency surgery to remove the infected uterus is often the only way to save a pet’s life, and early intervention is critical.

We also perform gastropexy, commonly known as stomach tacking, to prevent dangerous stomach twisting (bloat) in large-breed dogs. This procedure may be done as an emergency or as a preventative measure during other surgeries.

If your pet has swallowed a foreign object or is suffering from a severe intestinal condition, intestinal blockage surgery (enterotomy or enterectomy) may be required. Timely surgery is vital to prevent life-threatening complications.

If your pet has developed a tumour within the abdominal cavity, including those affecting the liver, spleen, intestines or bladder, surgical removal may be recommended. Early intervention is important to improve outcomes and reduce the risk of complications or spread of disease.

For pets experiencing severe breathing difficulties, we can place a tracheostomy to secure their airway and stabilise their condition.
