Behavioural Exams
We take the time to listen, ask questions and look at the bigger picture. We work closely with behaviour specialists and utilise the latest behaviour questionnaires as part of our treatment plans. We are always happy to refer you and your pet to a behaviour specialist if more complex issues are noted.
What can we help with?
We can help pets who are experiencing separation anxiety, situational anxiety, storm and noise phobias or general anxiety disorders. We can help to alleviate some of their symptoms such as excessive barking, digging, vocalising, chewing and inappropriate urination.
We may ask you to complete a behaviour survey prior to your pet’s visit. Why?
It takes a specialist vet more than two hours to do a dog behavioural consultation, so we cannot expect to address the problem in a 15-30 minute consult in a busy general practice clinic! The questionnaire takes you approximately 30-60 minutes to complete. You will be asked a number of questions, which will help to identify the type of behavioural issues your dog is having. Once complete, you will get a customised behaviour report with specific advice for your dog. This advice will help you to understand why things are happening. In most cases, dogs are not “naughty” or “bad”, but distressed or anxious, and in need of help.
Our Vets are not behaviour specialists or veterinary behaviorists, but are Fear Free Certified Veterinary Professionals. They all have an interest in behavioural medicine, but do have limits to the type of behavioural cases that they are able to help with.
